Challenge

  • With new gins popping up faster than you can say 'cheers', people were in a bit of a fizz. Fever-Tree has seven delicious tonics, but with over 3000 gins out there, how could anyone find their perfect match?

Solution

  • Strategy: Fever-Tree's trusty pairing wheel couldn't keep pace with the gin tsunami hitting bottle shop shelves. A matchmaking marvel was needed that could not only keep up with the ever-growing gin crowd but could also allow Fever-Tree to introduce other mixer categories.

  • Creative: Enter Mixopedia - our digital drinks wizard that’s like having a mixologist in your pocket. It was time to waved goodbye to paper wheels and said hello to some seriously smart tech. We taught a computer to be a gin genius, creating a massive visual library of gins and Fever-Tree tonics. Now, when people entered a Dan Murphy’s and wanted to find their perfect pair, they just opened the Mixopedia browser page on their smartphone and quickly scanned a bottle using its camera. Boom! Our taste-savvy algorithm serves up the best match faster than you can say 'gin o'clock'. And because Mixopedia has a great sense of direction, it only suggests gins you can actually find in that Dan Murphy’s storech?

Results

  • We set up shop right in the gin aisles of Dan Murphy's, catching folks mid-browse. And boy, did they bite! On average, curious gin enthusiasts spent a whopping 3.5 minutes playing with Mixopedia. That's practically a lifetime in shopper years and once people discovered Mixopedia, they were hooked.

    Our little digital matchmaker turned out to be quite the chatterbox, spilling the beans on all sorts of gin intel - from the most-searched spirits to each store's secret gin superstars.
